What is Access control?

Access control is the set of rules deciding which addresses may call which functions, typically enforced with modifiers such as onlyOwner or role-based checks.

Missing or wrong access control is one of the most common causes of exploits: a mint function anyone can call, or an upgrade function without a guard. OpenZeppelin's Ownable and AccessControl are the standard implementations.
