What is Parallel EVM?

A parallel EVM executes many transactions at the same time on multiple CPU cores instead of one after another, while still producing the same final state as sequential execution.

Standard EVM clients execute every transaction in a block serially. A parallel EVM such as Monad's runs transactions optimistically in parallel, tracks which storage each one reads and writes, and re-executes only the ones whose inputs were changed by an earlier transaction in the block. Contracts whose functions touch independent storage get the most benefit.
